Gilbert Miles (Pontarddulais BC), guided by Byron John (Pontarddulais BC) delivered the perfect bowl on the last end of an exciting Mixed B2/B3 Pairs game against Scotland in Broadbeach during the 2018 Commonwealth games.
Playing the last end, with the scores draw and 12 - 12, Wales, through the Welsh Lead Julie Thomas, guided by John Wison (Pontarddulais BC) Julie drew some close bowls, with the result that the position was a 'measure for game'.
However, the Scottish Skip Robert Barr, guided by Sarah-Jane Ewing, with his last wood moved the jack. Now it was 'game lie for Scotland'. Gilbert had one wood left to win a Bronze Medal.
With nerves of steel, playing the back-hand with perfect weight, Gilbert drew around the Robert Barr's last wood to finish just 2 inches from the jack for the dramatic win.
The word "HERO" flashed up on our television screens - deservedly so. Julie Thomas, John Wilson, Byron John, Gilbert Miles
